Maurice "Mobetta" Brown
Maurice “Mobetta” Brown, a trumpeter, composer, arranger, and producer, masterfully blends contemporary jazz, blues-rock, and hip-hop. A Chicago native, he won the Miles Davis Trumpet Competition and studied under Alvin Batiste in Louisiana. His acclaimed debut, "HIP TO BOP," was recorded in New Orleans, and after Hurricane Katrina, he moved to New York, collaborating with Aretha Franklin, Wyclef Jean, and The Roots.
His second album, "THE CYCLE OF LOVE," received praise from NPR and the Huffington Post. As part of the Tedeschi-Trucks Band, he won a Grammy for horn arrangements on "Revelator." In 2014, he released "MAURICE vs. MOBETTA," merging jazz and hip-hop with artists like Talib Kweli. His latest work includes producing for Talib Kweli and Prodigy, and releasing "THE MOOD," featuring politically charged tracks.
In 2018, he toured with Anderson .Paak and The Free Nationals, performed with Ramsey Lewis and Kamasi Washington, and composed horn arrangements for Logic's album. Maurice “Mobetta” Brown continues to innovate, blending traditional jazz with rock and hip-hop.
Presented by the Orlando Jazz Collective as part of their 2024 Jazz Series and supported by Tito's Handmade Vodka and Elder Law P.A., this show promises an unforgettable evening with one of today’s most innovative artists. Don’t miss out!
